I'm not actively looking (hence why my resume link is obfuscated like that) but I'm at least interested in getting a feel for the market right now. That said, I'm willing to consider a position with a great fit for my skill set and career goals.

Here's my pitch: I have experience in a multitude of industries and positions. From improving legacy infra and processes in an established telco company to scaling a fast-moving startup from 200K to 2M users. In my free time, I love writing Code That Is Poetry but day-to-day I am not an idealist engineer who doesn't compromise. Well-engineered code is clean and correct but correct above all else.

Oh, also, I'm great at writing documentation. I consider myself introverted but apparently my communication skills are above average for Software Engineers. I also pride myself on my humility and modesty.

I'd love to explore other technical positions in the games industry short of joining a AAA studio because (a) I don't want to crunch and (b) my skill set does not lay that way; other techo-creative industries would also appeal to me! Another particular interest is in B2C businesses where the 'C' is software developers. I'd love to chat and network about opportunities; if you think you have a product that could benefit from my skill set, drop me a line!

I know you're out there. I can sense you, lurking behind a pile of processed resumes and cradling your reusable coffee cup like a talisman warding against ChatGPT cover letters. You're searching for that unicorn, the 10x engineer motivated by saving the planet who also rocks human skills that would make Brené Brown sit up and take notice.

I... am not that unicorn. More of a walrus, really, with wombat-like characteristics? But I did recently get restructured out of a role in climate-tech before I was done saving the world. I want more. I've got solid technical chops in platform engineering, Linux, AWS, Docker, all that good stuff. I'm an actual human who can talk (and listen) to people while only staring at my shoes approximately 35% of the time.

I work remotely from New Zealand, where green is practically a brand. We have tax treaties so you can pay me from everywhere, and our timezone dovetails nicely with many popular tech hubs including the Western US, Oceania, and Asia.

I make dev teams better. Add me to yours. There's a bit of a problem with CO2 we need to fix.

I'm Kowshik Islam, a Toronto-based software engineer with a knack for building scalable and efficient solutions. I co-created Herald, an open-source observability platform for distributed applications, and spearheaded initiatives in automatic provisioning, microservices architecture, and containerization. Prior to Herald, I contributed extensively to the open-source community through several web apps. My career began at OFGO Studio, where I led the modernization of our existing infrastructure with software tools, transforming us into one of the most efficient companies in our domain. I like a team that doesn’t mind sharing knowledge, and admitting that none of us are perfectly knowledgeable about any of this software business. If you can’t admit a mistake, or want to horde knowledge, then you you have some growing to do.
