Whisper AI | Sr. Machine Learning Engineer | San Francisco or REMOTE | Full-time

Whisper is building a new kind of hearing aid. By far the biggest problem people with hearing loss have is understanding conversation in crowded, noisy environments like restaurants, parties, and the like. The classical DSP algorithms that traditional hearing aids run have difficulty in these situations because the noise has very similar statistics to the signal. Deep learning can do far better. What we do differently is that our hearing aid comes with a small pocket unit which has 1800x the compute of a behind-the-ear hearing aid. This allows us to run much more sophisticated deep learning models to remove background noise.

We launched our first generation hearing aid more than a year ago and now are hard at work on the second generation product which will be smaller and produce even higher quality audio.

The company as a whole is around 60 employees, mostly engineers, and there are four of us on the machine learning team. You would work on every stage of the ML pipeline, from data collection and preprocessing, to designing new model architectures, to deploying trained models onto hardware.

There are so many ways we can use ML to improve hearing aids: beamforming, feedback mitigation, personalization, the list goes on. We're only at the beginning of what we believe we can do.

Argo AI | Pittsburgh, PA and Palo Alto, CA and Munich, DE, and Dearborn, MI and Pasadena, CA and Miami, Fl and Austin, TX and San Diego, CA and Washington, D.C. or Remote | Software Engineers, Machine Learning Engineers, computer vision people of all stripes and levels, wide variety of other roles | https://argo.ai

Hi, I'm Michael - I run Perception for Argo AI, a major autonomous vehicle company backed by Ford and Volkswagen. I'm hiring talented computer vision folks of all levels, and Argo AI is hiring broadly across many roles. You might be surprised at all the types of expertise we need - not only machine learning engineers and scientists, but high performance programming and software optimization experts, geometric computer vision specialists, and much more. We just showed our driverless testing in Miami and Austin (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kNPezEsybg)!

We are building level 4 autonomous vehicles (of multiple types) for cities, and we have built a very sophisticated set of systems. Some of the things that make Argo unique are our multiple autonomous platforms, our custom LiDAR (>400m range!), and our presence both across the United States and in Germany. And of course, the people - I came to Argo from Google, and this is the best job I've ever had. Everyone is smart, focused, and rowing in the same direction. I also really value the partnerships we have with academia, like the Argo AI Center for Autonomous Vehicle Research at Carnegie Mellon - the close partnerships we have with researchers from CMU, Georgia Tech, TUM, and more allow us to explore the forefront of technology while also keeping our eye on the ball of building products.

Speaking of commercialization, we have pilots with Lyft (https://www.lyft.com/blog/posts/lyft-ford-and-argo-chart-a-p...) and Walmart (https://techcrunch.com/2021/09/15/walmart-to-launch-autonomo...) - we are growing fast and it's an exciting time to join.

My roles for computer vision: https://www.argo.ai/careers/open-positions/?gh_jid=3228772 Open Positions: https://www.argo.ai/careers/#open-positions

If you're experienced and think you might be a good fit in the Perception org, but can't find a job listing above that feels right, feel free also to email me directly at schoenberg@argo.ai - I would be happy to take a look at a CV/resume and put you in touch with our recruiting team. I'm also hiring for a few technical lead manager roles, so if you're a specialist in both deep learning and LiDAR, I'd love to talk to you (or apply to this role: https://www.argo.ai/careers/open-positions/?gh_jid=3082712).

PS. You might also enjoy the recent ride we gave to Dr. Herbert Diess, Chairman of the Management Board of Volkswagen Group: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkW9Ev6Z9CI

I have been doing free mock interviews for the last 2 years at InterviewAt. My free calendar is booked out to end of June, but I do have a ton of mock interviews available on the YouTube channel. These have my inputs as to how candidates can perform better through the lens of a former senior exec from AMZN, MSFT, ORCL and multiple startups. I want to help.
