I have 10 years of industry experience doing exclusively DATA SCIENCE, and prior to that 10 years of university education specifically in NATURAL LANGUAGE PROCESSING culminating in a PH.D. from the UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE and a position as casual lecturer on MACHINE LEARNING.

Stop. I know what you think. "Jupyter notebooks and Powerpoint, and zero engineering skill." That's not me. I mean: I can do those things. But in a rare confluence of complementary skill, I'm also highly skilled as an engineer (software engineering, data engineering) and enthusiastic about wrapping great QUANT work into great ENGINEERING work.

I mostly work on projects that involve:

* mathematical modelling & data fitting (= MACHINE LEARNING).

* NATURAL LANGUAGE PROCESSING.

* VISUALIZATION (and yes: I know who Edward Tufte is).

* creation of dashboards & reporting infrastructure.

-> Having worked for one of the smaller web search engine companies (Bing syndication partner) for 2 years.

-> JUJU.COM: A job search engine running their own crawlers, index, frontend, and API-based data syndication, where I worked for 2 years.

-> TRAKTORO.NET: A search engine for used land machines. I ran a team of 5 developers and, over the course of 2 months, stood up this service from zero with no outside supervision where technology was concerned (only a business-need from a newly formed startup)

-> ELASTICSEARCH, SOLR, LUCENE work: This has included the use of elasticsearch for the implementation of search functionality across in-app data in an emergency operations center software suite (think: 911 dispatch). This was the market-leading software of this kind in Germany & the Netherlands.
