Hi HN! I’m on the job market for software engineering roles. A bit about me: I’ve cofounded a startup as the technical lead, worked full-stack most of my career, and have been using Rust for backend web development in the last few years.

I’m currently looking for mid- to large-sized businesses with strong engineering cultures that prize communication and personal growth. I thrive with open communication and authenticity. I’m open to remote roles or roles local to Chicago. I’m also tentatively open to relocating to California-based opportunities, given the right conditions.

I’m handy with test-driven development, I’m an eager documentarian, and I’m always excited to share what I know, whether that’s in writing, giving talks, or leading screen-sharing sessions. In previous roles, I’ve taught teams to collaborate via OpenAPI, migrated legacy systems to microservices, optimized CI/CD pipelines, implemented OpenTelemetry metrics and traces, and successfully introduced test-driven development.

My current career aspiration is to continue progressing as an IC to staff engineering roles, although I suspect my interests will swing towards the management side of the pendulum eventually. I would love to be working with Rust on innovative tech, or working with any tech stack whatsoever on developer experience or web development (where I’ve used languages running the gamut from PHP to Rust).

I have kids and they monopolize most of my free time, but when I have time I play with tech and writing code. I write here: https://briankung.dev, I have a microblog at https://hachyderm.io/@briankung, and I am a professional software engineering job reposter on LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/in/brian-kung-ba7410180/.

Please reach out if you think I might be a good fit for your team!

Hey, I want to encourage you to apply to this position at our legal tech startup: https://jobs.lever.co/trellis/b76fa20e-8bf4-4d6e-a716-200f36...

We are looking for an AI/ML engineer with experience building products using LLMs. Two of our chief pain-points currently are dealing with documents that are really big and exceed existing context windows and building a "RAG" search that is more than just vector search.

I've been a professional software developer for 16 years, working in various verticals such as digital video, AI/ML, healthcare, and more. I'm looking for senior/principal/??? remote IC roles, with a bias towards startups (let's move fast!) I have 10 years of experience being a tech lead, and the right hybrid management/IC role could also be a great fit. Hit me up, let's chat!
