SEEKING FREELANCER | Remote, contract work (We are in the US)

Vocalist.ai is a vocal transformation platform for music creators. We’re looking for help building out functionality, including frontend and backend.

I’m looking for a senior full-stack dev, ideally with experience using Next.js and FastAPI, but open to those experienced in other Python web frameworks.

We are a small self-funded team, so this would be hourly work, $30 USD/hour. Excellent English is important. Initially we’d be looking for 10-20 hours of work a week and then move up from there if things go well.

Some pluses but not requirements:

- Experience with Stripe

- Experience with Azure

- Anyone with a passion for music production or audio engineering

* We are open to working with multiple people, so if you are somewhat full-stack but very experienced with frontend, or the other way around, that could work.

Please send your resume to jobs@vocalist.ai, and include any links that you think might be applicable (Github, Stackoverflow, your Blog).

*******

I should also note, we are actively searching for a US-based (or PST timezone adjacent) lead developer who could become an integral part of our small team. This would need to be someone with heavy experience full-stack, including at a minimum React and backend Python web frameworks. This role would involve:

- Initial period of contract work to ensure mutual fit

- Equity if the collaboration proves successful

- Responsibilities would include full-stack development, feature planning from big picture concepts down to code planning and infrastructure requirements, and leading other developers

- Native English speaker or very fluent, as we would need to regularly discuss highly technical planning

A light knowledge of machine learning and audio engineering would be a huge plus as well.

Location: North-east UK

What I do: Senior backend dev / tech lead / fractional CTO

  * Deterministic AI for medical device regulations and other complex legal systems, including novel language and runtime for regulatory computing (Elixir, Raku, Rust)

  * EDI message passing / reconciliation for US dental health insurance market, including X12 parser (Clojure, Common Lisp, Perl, XQuery)

  * Custom domain specific language (DSL) to encode business rules for computer vision system (Common Lisp)

I'm seeking to work with Rust (which I know well and am quite good at its advanced features).

I have 8 years of full-time professional experience (in addition to further experience).

I'm skilled at foreseeing how APIs should balance simplicity with flexible capability and what should be exposed or not, as appropriate for the level of the layer at hand. I enjoy using my lower-level knowledge to improve higher-level usage. I'm excellent at making clean, robust, maintainable code with great comments, and at doing debugging, research, and reviewing. I'm good at figuring-out and fixing complex bugs in multithreading. I've both maintained codebases as well as designed and implemented high-reliability high-performance parts, and so I know how to make the various aspects correct the first time.

Remote: yes

Willing to Relocate: no

Resume/CV: in/kurtismullins

17 YoE in backend development, web applications, SaaS, distributed systems, data pipelines, internal tooling, PasS, IaaS, and DevOps (including at a game studio).

I have used too many technologies to list concisely but mentioned the tools I am strongest with above.

Interested in freelance & consulting engagements. I prefer working primarily async while providing high-quality documentation & written reports.

My strengths are going to be related to writing backend code for SaaS, setting up cloud/Kubernetes infrastructure, and creating automation or internal tooling. I also had a lot of fun helping founders build their MVCs/Prototypes in the early years of my career.

I am especially interested in working tangental to video games (1yr DevOps) or low/systems-level programming (0yrs professional experience), but open-minded to most projects or consulting arrangements.

Feel free to reach out if you're interested in a potential engagement. I am happy to work on projects within my "comfort zone" or jump into new areas on the job; it doesn't hurt to discuss it!

I am a seasoned (>10 years experience) full-stack principal software engineer and software manager specializing in the backend, platform engineering, internal tools, and data engineering. In the past, I've managed teams of up to 12 engineers and pioneered a number of no- and low-code solutions for stream processing, data model and query generation, form building, workflow systems, and front-end construction for a variety of industries, including those with strong regulatory requirements and complex business rules such as healthcare and fintech.

More recently, I've built a workflow engine for coordinating LLMs and other generative AI processes, and on top of this a platform for minimizing hallucinations and working with documents that are too large for existing context windows.

If any of the above seems like a match for you and your organization or project, don't hesitate to reach out.
