Yard Stick | Senior Software Engineer and Employee #2 | Remote (US Timezones) | Full Time

Stressed by latest IPCC report on climate change? Come join us so that you can part of the solution.

At Yard Stick we are developing hardware and software that will make it fast, affordable, and easy to measure the amount of carbon sequestered in soil. This enables two transformative changes. First, climate-minded growers will be able to sell carbon credits, which creates financial upside for earth-helping practices. Second, we will be able to quantify the impact of regenerative farming, so that more energy will be directed towards efforts with demonstrable climate benefits. Wins all around.

We have funding, customers, and a roadmap: what we need to do now is code. You will be our second full-time hire, and therefore we need someone passionate about building a mission-driven company.

On a personal note: before co-founding Yard Stick, I (Evan, head of software) spent almost two years trying to answer the question, “How can my experience in delivering SaaS products be applied to the climate crisis?” Here is where I finally found my answer.

Our app is built using Ruby on Rails with a sprinkling of Stimulus written in Typescript, along with Tailwind CSS. These choices reflect an engineering ethos: the reason we’re writing code is to enable our customers to sequester carbon. We use proven tools to get there faster.

To apply send me an email directly at evan@useyardstick.com. Briefly answer the following Qs, and we’ll follow up ASAP:

- Why you’re interested in the role

- A line or two about relevant experience

- A few sentences about a coding challenge you’re proud of solving. Code sample welcome but not required.

Voltus | Frontend/Backend/Data/SRE/Systems | Remote | Full-Time

We are a team of engineers and energy experts working to get our customers paid for using less energy. Our customers are energy consumers (factories, skyscrapers, warehouses, steel mills...) who will commit to curtailing their demand on a signal from us. We aggregate those "curtailable" buildings into virtual power plants that we sell to utilities and other buyers in wholesale energy markets, splitting the revenue with our customers. Our virtual power plants are cleaner and cheaper than the coal and oil plants they replace.

Along the way we have to solve some hard problems:

  - trade energy in an international patchwork of wholesale power markets
  - convince a wide variety of factory foreman and building managers to cease their operations when they would really rather not
  - make hundreds of commercial and industrial buildings behave like a single, reliable generator in every way
We're currently hiring for a wide variety of roles--check our posts for more info. https://www.voltus.co/join-us

If you're interested in chatting please email me: max at voltus.co

Picnic | Senior Software Engineer | London, UK | ONSITE or REMOTE | Full time or contract

Keywords: React Native, TypeScript, RxJS, MobX, Node.js, PostgreSQL, Redis, SQLite, CQRS

Picnic is a new group chat app, built for close friends (https://picnic.chat).

Group chats matter, and they matter more than you might think. For billions of people, they've come to play a vital role in our most important relationships: the space online where our real friendships live. We believe the one-size-fits-all, functional apps where our group chats live today could be so much more. That's why we are on a mission to build a better home for people's favourite group chats: one that is more joyful, more intentional and more ethical.

It's an exceptionally good time to be joining our small but mighty founding team of top engineers from Facebook, Apple, Google and more. We are fresh from raising a £2.1m Seed round led by top tier VCs (announcement coming soon) and are backed by the likes of Robin Dunbar (the man behind Dunbar's number), Snapchat's 1st Engineer and many more world class operators.

We're looking to hire somebody who is comfortable working as a key part of a small team, with experience of having shipped consumer-facing mobile apps. The Senior in our job title does not refer to how many years of experience you have (or your degree!), but to your general approach to development: you are able to think about the system and architecture as a whole, know enough about all aspects of the stack to effectively diagnose issues, and are able to pass your knowledge onto other members of the team.

If this sounds like your kind of thing, read more about who we are, what we're doing & how you might fit in here: https://www.notion.so/teampicnic/Senior-Software-Engineer-c8...
