SEEKING WORK - Remote, travel possible depending on location and duration.

Location: North-east UK

What I do: Senior backend dev / tech lead / fractional CTO

Are you being held back by a constraining architecture, slow backend, or a team lacking the depth of experience you need for the next stage of your growth?

Most recently CTO of a regtech startup, I've spent the past 20+ years in a wide variety of tech roles building both products and teams, giving me the perspective to get your project moving without being bound to a particular language or stack.

Previous work:

* Deterministic AI for medical device regulations and other complex legal systems, including novel language and runtime for regulatory computing (Elixir, Raku, Rust)

* EDI message passing / reconciliation for US dental health insurance market, including X12 parser (Clojure, Common Lisp, Perl, XQuery)

* Custom domain specific language (DSL) to encode business rules for computer vision system (Common Lisp)

* University library data migration project, with a focus on completeness and validation. (Clojure, Elixir, Ruby)

* High-reliability, long-term timelapse platform for inaccessible locations. (FreeBSD, Arduino, Python, Shell)

* Migration of existing Node.js+Firebase service to Golang+PostgreSQL on AWS

* Feasibility study investigating the possiblility of writing custom code to interface with a biometric timeclock (Common Lisp)

SEEKING WORK | Remote | Raleigh, NC, USA

PhD (in criminal justice), and with my background mostly focus on mathematical modeling in the public sector. This includes program analysis (I did X and want to see if it made Y go down), forecasting/machine-learning (I have won several prediction competitions by NASA/NIJ), and optimal allocation (integer linear programming, GIS, and network algorithms).

Doing this work you pick up a bit of over tech along the way, so I do have competence in front end and back end. So if you wanted a javascript app that queries a backend database instead of your current Tableau dashboard, I could do that. Or help design a PHP or static website to show your groups work. Or translate SAS code to python. Or help optimizing large queries for data analytics workflows.

Most of my work is small fixed contracts, ranging from $3k to $80k in my career.

SEEKING WORK | Lead Developer | Full stack with data engineering skills

Location: U.S.A. (Vermont)

Remote: Only

Willing to relocate: No

Technologies: Python/Django, JavaScript/React, AWS, GCP, GNU Make, Bash, Prefect, Airflow, data engineering, mapping, data visualizations

Résumé/CV: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sam-mcalilly/

Email: smcalilly@gmail.com

I'm currently a lead developer for a civic tech consultancy. I specialize in data engineering, interactive maps, and data visualizations. I can design data pipelines, backend systems, and complex user interfaces. I also have experience managing projects and clients.

I'm particularly interested in civic tech, data journalism, or climate tech opportunities with a sustainable agriculture focus. Would also be cool to work in forestry or any sort of nature-related technical role, though I don't have the science background.

I'm also interested in literature or otherwise book/library/art/music/culture related opportunities (see the landing page for my pre-revenue software project for booksellers: https://www.bookhead.net/marketing/). I'm a former bookseller and have experience building library marketing software.

Searching for a part-time contract or a 3-6 month contract with a bigger time commitment, starting in May or June at the earliest.

Hi! Do you need engaging, useful technical content?

That amazing thing you're building--I can show people how to use it. I'm a tech writer with extensive experience in engaging demanding technical and non-technical users with relevant, accurate content. And I've helped documentation teams to write more and fuss less by implementing process improvements and automation.

Recent projects: Developer advocacy, technical blogging, ghost writing, and user documentation for SaaS platforms, embedded software development tools, distributed radiology workflow systems, machine learning, and open source software.
