Location: Seattle

Remote: Yes.

Willing to Relocate: WA/CA, only.

Technologies: Kotlin/Java/Javascript. Mostly stick in back-end tech stacks. I pick the right tool for the job. I have been playing a lot with deploying and tuning local AI agents (Llama, Stable Diffusion), as it’s the most fun toy on the market.

1. My name is Philip.

2. I am a senior software engineer at Prime Video.

3. My expertise is in designing scalable, resilient, and usable data pipelining/aggregation services, and sensible interfaces to front them that meet the ever-shifting needs of a growing business.

4. I, along others, have successfully created 3 separate critical services for Prime Video, scaled them to Prime Video scale, and supported (through hiring, skill-development, vision/product development) the scale-out of an organization surrounding these services.

5. I am mission-driven. I have stayed in my current role for 6 years because video streaming has been an exciting, fulfilling product to work on. I’m eager to pour my spirit into refining and executing a great vision.

6. I am convinced that AI will be used to reduce the level of effort required to perform work across all industries, which will in turn increase the rate of experimentation and innovation. I feel compelled to contribute to that story.

Full-time roles either remote US or local to the Greater Boston Area

Location: Greater Boston Area, Massachusetts, USA

Experience: 4 Years of experience + Master's in ECE

Technologies: C++17/C++20, OpenCV, FFmpeg, Python, Golang, PyTorch, OpenVINO, CUDA

Résumé/CV: https://derekrodriguez.dev/resume.pdf

Bio: I am a C++ Engineer who is passionate about Audio/Video technology and machine learning. At my previous role, I wrote a real-time smart recording app in C++17 that would record H.264/H.265 video from security cameras by detecting changes in the foreground using real-time background subtraction, and then would re-encode the video and upload it to the cloud over an HTTPS connection. In a contractor role before that, I built a topic classification service for that would scale to 100s of thousands of inputs per second on a single GCP e2.mini instance, since the client was very price sensitive.

I'm a fullstack software engineer with strong fundamentals in programming and web technologies. I enjoy thinking about infrastructure, networking, and data. I consider myself a generalist when it comes to tech stack—I'm proficient in multiple stacks, and I enjoy picking up new tech to solve a specific problem. My biggest strengths are that I love continuous learning and I enjoy the process of solving hard problems.

Most recently, I worked with a remote team to develop a framework for testing microservice API integrations. If you want to know more, I authored a technical case study exploring the problem space and our solution: https://signet-framework.dev/case-study

I'm looking for a new opportunity—feel free to reach out if you think I may be a good fit for your team!
