I have a PhD in operations research---essentially, I solve optimization problems. You can give me a real-world problem and I can translate it into a mathematical model that can be solved (often optimally) via integer programming, constraint programming, or other methods. I'm the father of four young children, so I'm looking for flexible/remote part-time work (I'm also open to contract work).

I'm currently working on a column generation-based daily fantasy sports (DFS) solver as a personal project. Taking as input the predictions/requirements of the user, this solver can generate optimal lineups for multi-entry tourneys. It is, as far as I'm aware, the only DFS solver that can generate provably optimal sets of lineups for multi-entry DFS tourneys.

Hi,

My organization killed the product I was working on and so I find myself in the ranks of the newly laid off.

I am putting my name out here before it gets too busy. I have 20+ years experience in the Microsoft stack writing transaction processing applications such as kiosk point-of-sale systems, brokerage order management systems, investment bank portfolio accounting systems. With those, there was also the implementation of ETL and monitoring systems.

Lately, I’ve been working on upgrading my skills with react/next.js on vercel and tying in LLMs to boost productivity - but that’s still work in progress.

Will definitely consider contract positions.

Thanks!

Hello!

My name is Brandon, I'm a backend + platform developer with a little over 5 years of experience.

Most of that experience has been in "big data" SaaS platforms (most recently Datadog), but I'm happy to ditch the fancy stuff and just bring whatever pieces are most needed for a small or growing business -- while also being familiar with that fancy stuff, so we can know when we might need it. I've ranged all over the stack at each place I've worked so far -- data processing pipelines, workflow management, CI/CD, API frameworks, RPC, databases both transactional and analytical, AWS/GCP/Azure, and tons of observability of course. I'm versatile, learn new things fast, and I love to pitch in wherever help is needed (especially when things are on fire)!

Most importantly -- I care deeply not only about the quality of the work I do but also about my coworkers, and I strive to be awesome to work with and create a really open and psychologically safe environment. A work culture everyone can feel good about is my number-one priority.

Anyways -- my ideal company would look something like this:

* Most folks work in person most days, or hybrid

* Little or no VC investment (bootstrapped is awesome)

* Small, maybe in the range of 5 to 25 developers total

* Many small paying customers instead of a couple big ones

Though I understand that makes things pretty specific, so if you're only matching 2 or 3 of those then definitely still reach out.

If you want to get to know me a little better before reaching out, feel free to check out my blog, I tend to post roughly 50/50 about technical stuff and work-culture stuff:

Looking forward to hearing from y'all, thanks for reading :)
