I am an experienced software engineer, Rust language expert, startup CTO, and former Department of Defense research computer scientist who has written code for nuclear submarines and built high performance platforms and products in the edtech, fintech, CRE, B2B SaaS, and blockchain spaces. I specialize in solving hard engineering problems and building engineering teams and secure web-scale products from the ground up, including Arist (YC S'20) which I built up from 0 to a team of 11 engineers, SOC 2 Type II compliance, 20% market capture of the Fortune 500, and ultimately a $24m combo series A+B. I also built the backend and initial team behind the kagi.com search engine. Additionally, I am a former core member of the FRAME team at Parity where I had the pleasure of collaborating directly with Gavin Wood (original Ethereum CTO) to develop new features for the Polkadot blockchain ecosystem. I'm looking for my first job in software development. My training is as a mathematician, so I have lots of practice working on tough, abstract problems. I'm a ferocious self-directed learner and have worked on a broad range of projects. In particular, if you play chess, check out my chess training site at https://www.checkmatechamp.net/ . That site runs on the Google Cloud Platform and uses Python on the backend. The frontend is a mix of vanilla JS and OCaml (using js_of_ocaml).

My experience at startups has helped me learn how to build systems, and how to keep them running, simply and with minimal resources. (For example, as of this writing, Checkmate Champ has been running for 476 days without my intervention.) I also have extensive knowledge of algorithms; in graduate school, I was a teaching assistant for five years, mainly for the algorithms classes.

I have learned a lot of languages over the years that I never got the chance to use in a professional setting, including Lisp, OCaml, Haskell, and Smalltalk. If you are using one of these, I would especially like to hear from you.
