PhonePe | Bangalore, India | Full-Time | ONSITE | https://www.phonepe.com

PhonePe is India's largest FinTech company, dominating the market with a large market share and leading the competitors. It is very-well funded, just concluded a round of $600 million few months back. And we have large plans to enter new verticals, albeit slowly and in a calculated way. You can google us.

We are looking Linux Admins for 5+ years of experience minimum. Candidates should be well versed in Linux concepts, such as boot process, basic fine tuning, containers, troubleshooting, configuration, concepts such as networking, routing.

Also, if you interested in performance engineering, we are forming a cross functional team, so you will get to learn lot of things from basics.

We also expect you to know some MySQL, and some idea about message brooking tools like Kafka, RMQ etc. You don't need to have experience on them, but a good idea how they work internally.

We have 3 of our own DCs, with 10k+ bare metals. We run Ubuntu mostly, with apps deployed via KVMs and Docker. And BTW, we have written our own Docker Orchestrator to replace mesos, to which you are invited to criticize to which we are always open since we learn more that way :)

PhonePe offers good raises based on your current CTC. We offer stocks too, and plan to for an IPO within 5 years without which stocks don't really matter, do they :D

In our 80+ SRE team you will also learn how to transition from Linux Admins to SREs if you want to, and learn lot of tech, old and new in the process. And since company is growing, there will be lot of room to prove yourself and get further growth.

If interested, please send your resume to gautam.somani@phonepe.com with questions or doubts you may have.

Felt | Engineering Manager, Data | Oakland, CA or REMOTE (US timezones) | Full Time | https://felt.com

Felt is the best way to make maps on the internet. It's surprisingly hard to make a map today, and people in 15+ industries rely on them to do their jobs. Climate change and the resulting natural disasters are forcing even more people to become map-makers, and Felt is here to meet that need. It's the first easy-to-use collaborative mapping software, founded by a team of technologists with a proven track-record. My co-founder and CEO, Sam, is a former YC founder who sold his previous company [1] and I'm an early Uber engineer.

We are on the lookout for a hands-on engineering manager for our data team. Felt makes giant geospatial datasets a breeze to work with [2] and we are currently building our next-generation of our data stack on AWS. The team you'll be managing is full of expert engineers from Facebook, Carto, Mapbox, and Uber. You might have used their work in mapping already; such as Tippecanoe. We also recently announced our sponsorship of QGIS [3] and have some amazing stuff planned in the next couple of quarters.

We are well-funded and just raised our $15M Series A. You can read more about it our funding here [4], and our announcement here [5]. Our terms are employee-friendly terms such as early exercise, a 10-year exercise window and even a matching 401(k).[6]

If you are an experienced manager, please reach out via hello@felt.com!

Earlier quoted context omitted.

They can try to keep up :) We have two major advantages: 1. We can use best-in-class AI tech, from any vendor (ie. OpenAI) -- whereas Google is only going to use their internal tech 2. We can take lots of UX risk when designing the perfect UI for an AI email client. Gmail has to be much more cautious given it's such a core, old, massive product.

>whereas Google is only going to use their internal tech Really? I have a hard time seeing why this must be the case.

I have a hard time seeing why this wouldn't be the case.

You don't farm out your core business. Google didn't use a rebranded Yahoo search engine in 1998, did they? They need to be a leader in AI or they will die quickly.

Shortwave | Sr. Software Engineer | Onsite in San Francisco | $150k-$225k base + generous equity I previously cofounded Firebase (YC S11) and sold it to Google, and most of our team is ex-Google / ex-Firebase. Imagine an AI virtual assistant with perfect…

Isn't the worry here that Google is going to head in this same direction? (hasn't there been some indication that they are moving in this direction?)

Google already made that and turned it off, so I think it's safe.
