It's probably to advertise the Stacked PRs feature: https://github.github.com/gh-stack Not cute..I thought something had been compromised when I initially saw it.

yeah was prepping to spend a lot of the day waiting for bigger attacks on other systems

Why so much hate. I think this is brilliant way to announce new features! It is playful, it is nice, it is something new. Don't take it too seriously.

How in the world was I supposed to find out that it was a feature announcement without searching new Hacker News posts?

I did some tech support yesterday and there were 4 different search bars on the screen and several "hamburger" or "triple dot" menus. It was a nightmare trying to communicate "the search bar in the middle left menu list" and "the triple dot on the right below the search bar".

Considering that Github's new target market is people who don't know how to read or code, I think this is a genius move.
