Sounds complications

over what? Gmail is not easier than any other mail provider. Quite the contrary as traditionnal email providers are usually more user friendly. A store is a store. In my experience aurora is not more complicated than the google playstore. As for storage I don't think google drive is less complicated thant the competition. I don't need cloud storage anyway except from secondary backup site which would be stupid to use…

You don't need cloud storage? Where do you store your media?

Not OP, but I have a small Nas at home, and a small raspberry with owncloud with the drives mapped. I run it all behind tailscale so all my devices have access to everything from anywhere. Backups are being migrated but I have my home pc as a backup while switching providers.

NAS at home, with a an old desktop machine working as local backup server. I have a cloud storage as secondary backup as mentionned earlier. Google drive/one would not be fit for that anyway as it is super expensive for very small amount of storage.

I am 69 years old and never had a google account of any type.

what on earth do you need google for?

No challenges at all.

There are better alternatives to google or any of the other big surveillance USA companies.

I sign in to all my accounts, Bank, pay my bills, Utility Companies, Government, Lemmy, mastodon, Nextcloud, Kdrive, everything, with protonmail or tuta mail.

I dont use amazon, I only use independent shops, so I sign in to their websites. I dont need google.

I dont do any social media. like Boatrace-crook, X, reddit, and the like, either.

My phone is Lineage so I only use F-droid, Droid-ify and neostore for apps.
