Microsoft Applied Sciences Group | Senior / Principal Software Dev | REMOTE (Canada) | Full-time

I’m hiring for my Windows incubation team. We think of, research, and implement next-gen products, technologies, and user experiences. It’s like working at a startup, but with the job stability and perks of a large company. The team is all senior/principal level, affording us a fast pace even in the face of complicated challenges.

We’re currently working hard on an ML-based inking application (https://aka.ms/journal) but will ultimately move to other projects when ideation yields a higher-impact idea. The idea could be Windows tech, or maybe related to Surface hardware .. you never know.

I’m the hiring manager (nice to meet you!). Feel free to reach out with questions at first.last -at- microsoft.com.

• More info + apply as principal (15+ yrs): https://careers.microsoft.com/us/en/job/1214131

• Apply as senior (7+ yrs exp): https://careers.microsoft.com/us/en/job/1214156

Virtual Pricing Director (VPD) | Remote | UK | Full-time | Senior Software Engineer | £80,000 - £100,000+

We’re a well-funded startup (no VC money) building the future of legal matter pricing, for small and large legal firms alike. Our software means an end to overcharging clients, arbitrary pricing, and other bad practices that have existed for years.

Our two directors are world authorities in this niche, and bring a number of signed firms ready to use our software as we transition from our current soft launch into hard launch.

Our fully-remote dev team is small, and therefore you’ll have a lot of opportunity to make a noticeable impact, especially given the extremely flat hierarchy.

Our whole team is friendly, down-to-earth, and operates without ego. We think you’ll enjoy working with us, and we’re looking for similarly-minded folks.

The work is varied, challenging, and will be quite evenly split across the front and back end. Because of the need to get scheduled features out, fix bugs, and respond to the needs of newly onboarded firms, we’re looking for a seasoned React pro (hard requirement) who is also comfortable with Node.js, TypeORM (or similar), GraphQL, Apollo Client & Server (or similar), and API creation.

A bonus would be if you’ve had any prior experience with Ant Design (our UI framework of choice), Storybook, CircleCI, Heroku, Jira, and any client support ticket work.

In summary, we’re looking for a versatile, full stack developer who (after a period of learning the ropes on our specific setup) can hit the ground running and contribute to our fast-growing product and team.

If this sounds cool to you, email our person handling applicants at: vittoria at virtualpricingdirector dot com

Oso | Engineering Leader, Software Engineer, Developer Advocate, Product Leader | New York City (NYC) | Onsite or Remote

Over the last 15 years, companies like AWS, Stripe, and Twilio have helped developers offload anything not core to their apps so they can focus on what matters to their users. Despite a lot of progress in developer tooling, most developers still roll their own authorization.

You might start with something quick 'n dirty – some IF statements and roles in a database, which may not be pretty but gets the job done...until you need to add more features, and more features. And inevitably every team band-aids onto this system until they do a big refactor. This is lost time for an area that's not core to what most companies are trying to solve for their users, and what's more, no one on the team is feeling great about this work.

At Oso (backed by Sequoia), we're building the first batteries-included framework for authorization so developers don't have to roll it on their own ever again. We're designing slick APIs to cut down the amount of time they spend getting their system set up, and building a fully-fledged policy engine and programming language (in Rust) under the hood to ensure they can customize their system however they need. We don't have any product managers – the engineers on the team are responsible for taking broad problems, experimenting with potential solutions and shipping a superhuman experience for our users.

The team members who join now will not only have a disproportionately large impact on the product, but also on the culture and future of the company.

We are based in NYC and hiring folks remote or onsite.

Sock Club (and Banner Goods) | Senior Software Engineer | Austin, TX | FULL-TIME, REMOTE, https://custom.sockclub.com and https://sockclub.com and http://bannergoods.com

How we buy goods is shifting it's reorganizing from around the automobile to around the smartphone and desktop. Sock Club has grown organically from a D2C e-commerce brand to a custom socks manufacturer and now to a service and design focused e-commerce experience. We are targeting the huge dinosaur industry of corporate gifts and promotional products. It’s an industry where service and design can separate us from other companies and where behemoths like Amazon can’t compete. We already have a service and design team that delivers a high quality experience to our clients. We are building a development core to build a web experience and software tools to make it so that team (staying the same size) can deliver the same experience to 10x the number of clients. If you're interested in this opportunity contact me at dane@sotmclub.com.
