I got rid of mine for a year thanks to a comment on HN. The only reason it came back is because of my lack of discipline. It's bearable as I only notice it when I actively listen for it now. Anyway, I am sure this would just work again. So there was a comment that claimed it was related to bad neck posture. Being a keyboard warrior in my late 30s at that time I suffered the same issue: Tinnitus and generally bad post…

I think the vagus nerve is often implicated and probably highly stressed by keyboard warriors from neck to arse.

That stinks, sorry to hear. It's mentioned when tinnitus comes up, or when dark mode isn't available. Couple months ago, someone recommended a supplement that it seems could easily(?) be DIY'd in case it's snake oil (even if it's more expensive, then they don't "win"!) :) https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=false&qu...

Thanks. I have been looking for "unknown or expired link" for ages.

DOH!

Thank you! Tested this time: “floaters”. As of now, top of page three has that potentially-useless supplement that caught my eye.

Before was a now-rare error :)

Sadly there is - as far as commonplace medicine goes - very little knowledge of what causes tinnitus and doctors have dismissed me multiple time with a consternated shrug.

Exactly, that’s what my doctor did then asked if there’s anything else otherwise it’s 30€ the visit. Worst investment ever.

Opiates allegedly work for tinnitus, I know two people who were prescribed it. If you're ever prescribed any, remember to log how your tinnitus is.

I forgot to, unfortunately.

"straighten your neck" is not the right phrase. Your neck has a natural curve and it actually becomes straight with bad posture.

I was told this last week, my neck is too straight, probably due to muscle spasms.

of course even reading a thread on tinnitus makes mine worse. The mere fact of paying attention to it makes it worse, so I have a hard time seeing how a drug is going to help much. I do wish there was something. Ostensibly mine is from high frequency hearing loss, which I absolutely have, but I now wear hearing aids and it has no measurable impact from my point of view. I take comfort in that I can go long periods of…

Very similar to my experience. I just woke up with it one day in my early 30s. It drove me a bit mad at first, I wanted someone to 'cure' it and make it go away. Then I tried all sorts of things, I narrowed down the frequency (IIRC it's 13.5kHz) and tried masking by playing that in my right ear. I tried white noise. I tried 'notching' all my mp3s to remove that frequency band. I don't think any of it really helped. B…

I used to think my tinnitus was the sound of lights or other electrical devices or current around me. Not sure where I got that idea. Until one night when the power goes out, and it’s dead silent, but the eeeeeeee is still there. That was over 10 years ago and it’s never stopped.

that seems like a risky move though, doesn't it?

Could you provide some detail? Even YouTube links would be helpful.

Reminds me of advise someone gave me. Deadlifting gets rid of back pain. So I don't have an insane amount of weights, but I have roughly 30 to 40lb I can deadlift at home, which does not sound impressive at all, but coincidentally, mundane tasks that would give me back pain no longer did. Also coincidentally, my ability to do pull ups went from 0 to several reps per day. When I stopped, the back pain came back, but n…

The more weight the better. There is an expression: break your comfort zone. But more important is an (almost) perfect exercise technique. Then resistance training makes unexpected wonders in all ages.

Over the years I have seen a few threads on tinnitus. I have it very mildly and doesn’t bother me much. On the other hand I have had “floaters” in my eyes since I was a teenager (probably just when I noticed them). Until I saw a doc I thought I was going blind but apparently they run in my family. They are like visual tinnitus and my god do they drive me crazy. I find wearing sunglasses helps me ignore them but they…
