I got rid of mine for a year thanks to a comment on HN. The only reason it came back is because of my lack of discipline. It's bearable as I only notice it when I actively listen for it now. Anyway, I am sure this would just work again. So there was a comment that claimed it was related to bad neck posture. Being a keyboard warrior in my late 30s at that time I suffered the same issue: Tinnitus and generally bad post…

Bad posture, and perhaps even more importantly, sitting is a really, really bad thing. There is a reason why taxi drivers have massively shorter life spans than the general population - sitting all day and the following poor circulation is one of the worst things you can do to your body. By the way, do you have any youtube videos perhaps saved that you followed?

That fact doesn't check out. They will have health problems from sitting but it isn't killing them.

>tinitus sure as hell isn't my friend. what the author is advocating for "befriending tinnitus" is a well established form of therapy (Acceptance and Commitment/ACT), it's generally very effective because avoidance or compensatory behavior ("trying to make the tinnitus go away / distract myself") is teaching the brain that tinnitus is a problem and is only going to increase the kind of alertness that leads people to…

It's not even clear that for most sufferers that there is a physical impairment at all. I went to a Tinnitus clinic in Berlin and was surprised at how little is known about it even now and how much is likely psychological (or more inside the brain than the ear).

some tinnitis sufferers actually emit sounds from their ear - they picked it up with microphones.

I don't even know why I have tinnitus. It's not end of the world bad tinnitus, but sometimes does get a little annoying. It is louder in the evenings/nights than in the mornings. I have it since primary school 4th grade or so, when I realized I have it, because an old teacher described her own tinnitus. But as far as I can remember there was no very loud sound event before that causing the tinnitus. Maybe it comes fr…

Most people have tinnitus - the experience of hearing faint phantom sounds such as a high pitched tone. Not everyone has tinnitus - the disease/disorder where the phantom sounds distract from everyday life.

I got mine at a super loud music concert a few decades ago, and I worsened it at another concert which wasn't supposed to be as loud as it was. Despite wearing the in-ear hearing protections, it became louder and never went to previous state. So now I am very carefully selecting what I allow others to put in my ears, avoiding big concerts in closed venues altogether.

The high pitch is around 7000-8000 Hz with no single frequency that I can isolate. That means the cilia closest to the entrance got damaged.

So, f*ck you all the "audio engineers" who work around the bad acoustics of a venue merely by increasing volume. I hope you'll get the same suffering as you cause to others.

Over the years I have seen a few threads on tinnitus. I have it very mildly and doesn’t bother me much. On the other hand I have had “floaters” in my eyes since I was a teenager (probably just when I noticed them). Until I saw a doc I thought I was going blind but apparently they run in my family. They are like visual tinnitus and my god do they drive me crazy. I find wearing sunglasses helps me ignore them but they…

I got a large amount of floaters in my left eye after a sparring session where I was hit in the eye. Also had flashing in the periphery of my vision when I moved my eye, so I went to an eye doctor to have it examined. Luckily he couldn't see any signs of detachment and it's also been stable for well over a decade and a half now without any worsening. I find that they mostly don't annoy me now, but it genuinely took a…

Same for me. But I suspect I got them by practicing spinning kicks in Tae-Kwan-do. I have to get checked for detachment, but I am good. Doctor told me that eventually my brain would erase them, What I have been doing just ignore them as much as possible.

I am in the same condition of not knowing silence. My sympathies.

Never too late to see a doctor about it.

Sadly there is - as far as commonplace medicine goes - very little knowledge of what causes tinnitus and doctors have dismissed me multiple time with a consternated shrug.

My doctor told me the same, but I think it's the wrong way to phrase it because I truly expected them to become invisible and got frustrated when they didn't. What they mean when they say that is probably that you learn to ignore them (unless you can't stop focusing on them), but they are by no means erased.

For how long you had tinnitus before making it disappear, if I may ask.
