I've never had adware/toolbars or such installed by chocolatey, can't speak for others though. I use when I want a quick way of getting for example the JRE without crap installed.

If you have git on the command line in Windows a lot of the most common programs are already there (see https://github.com/msysgit/msysgit/tree/master/bin ).

C# solutions on the other hand builds way faster (in my experience).

Even easier if you're both swedish and have at least some knowledge in metal bands (coming from a guy that shared rehearsal space with Meshuggah in the late 80's).
