I had similar issues, and tried the same to no avail. The only thing that worked was a complete reinstall of the operating system. Am guessing you might need to do the same.

Love org-mode. You should look into Spacemacs or Doom Emacs, with their focus on vim-style keybindings. I’m still learning my way around Emacs so appreciate Spacemacs for its disco…
