Is your main issue with the VC funding, the CLA, or the combination of both. Doesn’t Kubernetes (hosted by the Linux Foundation) also have a CLA?

Wouldn't that be a challenge for most cloud native db's? Are there cloud db's that are easier to self-host?

Even if a project/company doesn't have a CLA, I don't think that is any sort of guarantee that their license won't change in the future.
