Seconded. We treated ArXiv pre-prints incredibly seriously and only posted things when they were already in review/scheduled to be published.

Not unsurprising, though obvious caveat about correlation and causation. I wouldn't be surprised if pollution is correlated with other things like low quality of life, poverty, etc…
