Hi, I've recently started working on a project built on Spring framework. I've worked on Java 8(mostly Android and only used lambdas) and Play framework(Scala)

You can take a look at LXLE and Lubuntu. Both are lightweight and are intended to have low resource system requirements

I would suggest Manjaro. It is based on Arch and has a GUI installer. My experience with Arch's package manager (pacman) has been far better that Ubuntu's.
