If you flash the 39 inch with the firmware from the 50 inch it can do 120Hz at all resolutions 1920x1080 and below. I even give it 240Hz @ 720p even though it drops half the frames…

It does. I have the 2012 first macbook pro retina (bought it the day it came out for its 2880x1800 display back in June or July of 2012). You need to be running Mavericks to use it…
