    The reasons are rarely shared unsolicited. It's usually because I asked (no harm in that) or knew someone on the inside.

    I wouldn't be so fast. Lots of people want to be professors, way more people than there are viable jobs. Some of the interviews bring out that point.

    This is a huge. It's so easy to make mistakes doing those computations by hand, but Wolfram Alpha handles it with ease. I use it all the time.
