It is definitely not "just a few". I'm working for a domain registrar and can confirm that most registries support DNSSEC nowadays.

Looks like Google is now validating the TLS certificate received from the mailserver. So the hostname of the SMTP server provided in the GMail settings has to match the certificate…

I totally agree. Netlify has everything I need.
