Have you tried erlang.mk with relx? Setting up the project takes literally no effort, building & running the server app is as easy as "make run".

I wonder if technology from Better Place ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Better_Place ) was in any way an inspiration? They had developed a battery swapping system in 2007.

I second getting the TI Launchpad. Great and super-cheap piece of kit With Energia ( http://energia.nu/ ) you can even use your Arduino sketches and run them on MSP430 Launchpad!
