Why do you need 12 gauge when you are drawing 100mA? Also, what if you stick a magnetic metal in the coil to amplify the flux?

What if you used a magnetic material to increase the flux? Why use such low gauge wire if you are only harvesting 100mA? And as mentioned, the rogowski coil is neat.
